With the link we sent to registered participants you can choose out of the following guided tours. Since we have limited capacities you can order by interest. We will maintain waiting lists when the tours are overbooked.

    1. Dante, Gilgamesch & Co – Lüpertz Art in the Underground
      • Starting location: Premises of the VBK at Durlacher Tor,
Kaiserstraße 2, 76131 Karlsruhe, view of the building.
      • Duration: approx. 2 hours.
      • Decription: We tell you stories, myths and historical truths about the 14 wall reliefs of the U-Strab (meaning underground tram). You travel through Dante’s Inferno, get to know the city of Uruk, come across parallels between the oldest myth of humanity and the Bible and of course the Greek myths cannot be left out. But it is also about tangible things: How and where were the reliefs made by Markus Lüpertz, how were they mounted and finally: How was the whole thing financed?
    2. Engineering and Art in the Underground – the Seven Underground Stations of Karlsruhe
      • Starting location: In front of the Post office,
Kaiserstraße 14, 76131 Karlsruhe / Berliner Platz, view of the building.
      • Duration: approx. 2 hours.
      • Description: This tour takes you on an underground experience. At first glance, the seven stops of the underground tram all appear the same – but at second glance, there are differences that make each individual stop unique. We also show you what is hidden behind the various covers, flaps and doors, what fire protection measures are in place and how the technology behind the underground tram actually works. Of course, the art on the building in the form of light art should not be missing in all of this and a brief insight into the genesis of Markus Lüpertz is also provided.
    3. Art on Campus South
      • Starting location: Statue Pallas Athene at KIT Ehrenhof,
Kaiserstraße 10, 76131 Karlsruhe, view of the statue.
      • Duration: approx. 1,5 hours.
      • Description: On the Campus South, the former University Fridericiana, a large number of outstanding art objects have been constructed together with the buildings since its foundation as a polytechnic school in 1825. They have been realized as architectural sculptures, as monumental settings or as interior designs. However, the majority of the works of art on the campus date from after 1950, when the German government launched the program of ‘Kunst am Bau’ which is still existing today. The selection of artists represented on the Campus South is not only regionally influenced but also includes a wide variety of positions from all over Europe. However, the contact to the State Academy of the Arts as well as suggestions from the exhibitions of the Badischer Kunstverein can be recognized.
