This minisymposium aims to bring together researchers working on PDEs appearing in models of fluid dynamics and pattern formation.
Special emphasis will be put on thin liquid films and fluid interfaces. Our focus will be on discussing existence and stability of solutions as well as the validity of asymptotic models.
The dynamics of the analyzed fluid flows can exhibit a wide range of behaviors, depending on the geometrical settings and the interplay of physical parameters. These behaviours include approaching equilibrium states, forming nontrivial patterns, or maintaining out-of-equilibrium states driven by persistent fluxes.
Specific examples to be discussed include the dewetting dynamics of thin liquid films on horizontal solid substrates, rimming (inside) or coating (outside) flows on rotating cylinders, and films flowing down inclined planes. Additional influences may be included such as thermal effects, which can lead to long-wave instabilities.
This symposium will provide a platform for exchanging ideas and advancing our understanding of these complex fluid systems.
